Morning Meditation: I can only fly freely when I know
there is a catcher to catch me. If we are to take risks, to
be free, in the air, in life, we have to know that when we
come down from it all, we’re going to be caught, we’re
going to be safe. The great hero is the least visble. Trust
the catcher. (Henri Nouwen)
To Practice This Thought: Let go, fly, and trust.

All: God calls us to trust with steady hearts and to

And so, with your people on earth
and all the company of heaven
we praise your name and join their unending hymn:
(sung) Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and
might, heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is the one who
comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest. Hosanna in the highest.
…………
And so, in remembrance of these your mighty acts in
Jesus Christ, we offer ourselves in praise and thanksgiving

Scripture & Hymns for February 5th

SCRIPTURE READING: 1 Corinthians 1:18-31
For the message about the cross is foolishness to those who
are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power
of God. For it is written, “I will destroy the wisdom of the
wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.”
Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scholar? Where
is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the
wisdom of the world? For since, in the wisdom of God, the
world did not know God through wisdom, God decided,
through the foolishness of the proclamation, to save those
who believe. For Jews ask for signs and Greeks desire
wisdom, but we proclaim Christ crucified, a stumbling
block to Jews and foolishness to gentiles, but to those who
are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of
God and the wisdom of God. For God’s foolishness is wiser
than human wisdom, and God’s weakness is stronger than
human strength.
Consider your own call, brothers and sisters: not many of
you were wise by human standards,[a] not many were
powerful, not many were of noble birth. But God chose
what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose
what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose
what is low and despised in the world, things that are not,
to abolish things that are, so that no one might boast in the
presence of God. In contrast, God is why you are in Christ
Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God, and
righteousness and sanctification and redemption, in order
that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in[c] the
Lord.”
GOSPEL READING: Matthew 5:1-12
When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain, and
after he sat down, his disciples came to him. And he began
to speak and taught them, saying: “Blessed are the poor in
spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. “Blessed are
those who mourn, for they will be comforted. “Blessed are
the meek, for they will inherit the earth. “Blessed are those
who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be
filled. “Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive
mercy. “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see
God. “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called
children of God. “Blessed are those who are persecuted for
the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of
heaven. “Blessed are you when people revile you and
persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you
falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward
is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the
prophets who were before you.
Lord, I Lift Your Name On High

Lord, I lift your name on high;
Lord, I love to sing your praises.
I’m so glad you’re in my life;
I’m so glad you came to save us.
You came from heaven to earth to show the way,
from the earth to the cross my debt to pay;
from the cross to the grave, from the grave to the sky;
Lord, I lift your name on high.
Sent Out In Jesus’ Name
Sent out in Jesus’ name, our hands are ready now
to make the earth the place in which the kingdom comes.
The angels cannot change a world of hurt and pain
into a world of love, of justice and of peace.
The task is ours to do, to set it really free.
O help us to obey and carry out your will.
In Christ Alone
In Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
This cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My comforter, my all in all
Here in the love of Christ I stand
In Christ alone who took on flesh
Fullness of God in helpless babe
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones He came to save
Till on that cross as Jesus died
The wrath of God was satisfied
For every sin on Him was laid
Here in the death of Christ I live
There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain
Then bursting forth in glorious day
Up from the grave He rose again
And as He stands in victory
Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me
For I am His and He is mine
Bought with the precious blood of Christ
No guilt in life, no fear in death
This is the power of Christ in me
From life’s first cry to final breath
Jesus commands my destiny
No power of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand
Till He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand
Take, O Take Me As I Am by John Bell
Take, O take me as I am.
Summon out what I shall be.
Set your seal upon my heart and live in me
